Overview

Classics Illustrated , created by Albert Kanter, published in 1941 and first completed in 1971, produced 169 problems. Editor Vincent Fago Pendulum Now Age Classics, published by Pendulum Press, began adapting classical literature to black-and-white comics beginning in 1973. Pendulum Series is a direct predecessor of Marvel Classics Comics - in fact, the first edition of Marvel is a color reprint of the selected Pendulum comic, with a new cover. These problems feature writers such as Otto Binder, Kin Platt, and Irwin Shapiro who adapt; with art by Filipino artists Alex NiÃÆ' Â ± o, Rudy Nebres, and E. R. Cruz, among others.

The problem in the Marvel Classics Comics series is 52 pages without ads. Most of the titles in the previous series have been adapted in Classics Illustrated , but two new ones added: Bram Stoker Dracula (issue # 9, reprint Press Pendulum) and H. Rider Haggard's He (issue # 24).

After twelve first reprint issues, the adaptations were handled by authors such as Doug Moench and John Warner (Warner is the series editor of issue # 13-24). Many problems were drawn by Dino Castrillo; artists such as Jess Jodloman, Yong MontaÃÆ' Â ± o, and Rudy Mesina also have many contributions. Ernie Chan is responsible for most of the original cover. Michael Golden's first work for Marvel Comics was "The Cask of Amontillado", a backup story in Marvel Classics Comics # 28 (1977) that adapted Edgar Allan Poe's short story.

In 1984, Marvel teamed up with Fisher-Price to re-publish Marvel Classics Comics game titles in toy stores, packed with book tapes.

In 2007, Marvel re-entered the arena of literary adaptation with their traces Marvel Illustrated.
