Peyton Williams Manning (born March 24, 1976) is a former American football quarterback who plays 18 seasons in the National Football League (NFL), especially with the Indianapolis Colts. Considered one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time due to many of his career achievements, he spent 14 seasons with the Colts and became a member of the Denver Broncos in his last four seasons. Manning played college football for the University of Tennessee, leading Tennessee Volunteers to the 1997 SEC Championship in his senior season. He is the second son of former NFL player, Archie Manning and brother of New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning.
Manning was chosen by the Colts as the first overall pick in the 1998 NFL Draft. From 1998 to 2010, he increased the luck of the struggling Colts franchise and helped turn them into consistent playoff rivals. During his initial quarterback, Manning led the team to eight division championships, two AFC championships, and one Super Bowl title, the first franchise in over three decades, and the first since moving to Indianapolis.
After undergoing a neck surgery that forced him to miss the entire 2011 season, Manning was freed by the Colts and signed with the Broncos. Serving as the team's early quarterback from 2012 to 2015, it contributes to the Broncos reaching the top of their division every year and his playing career closes with a victory at the Super Bowl 50.
Manning holds many NFL records, including over the yard (71,940), touchdown pass (539), AP MVP award (5), Pro Bowl appearance (14), seasons passing 4,000 yards (14), season passing one season (5,477 in 2013) and a single season touchdown (55 in 2013). Super Bowl winner twice and the most valuable player of the Super Bowl XLI, Manning is also the only quarterback to start the Super Bowl for two different franchises more than once each, with different trainers at the beginning of each Super Bowl (Dungy, Caldwell, Fox, Kubiak), and the only early quarterback to win the Super Bowl with two different franchises. At age 39, Manning was the oldest midfielder to start and win the Super Bowl, a feat that was matched the following year by Tom Brady.
During the 2009 Nighttime Football game, Manning received the nickname "The Sheriff" from color commentator Jon Gruden because of his tendency to be heard before the snap, and he is one of the best known and parodied players in the NFL. High school career
Manning attended Isidore Newman School in New Orleans, Louisiana, and led their football team to a 34-5 record for three seasons as a starter. He was named Gatorade Circle of Champions National Players of the Year and Columbus (Ohio) Touchdown Club National Offensive Player-of-the-Year in 1993. While at Newman, he began wearing jersey # 18 in honor of his older brother Cooper, who were forced to give up football because of spinal stenosis. Eli's younger brother also wore the number when he started to become a quarterback. Newman has since retired jersey # 18 and it can be seen hanging in the school gym. College career
Manning chose to play college football for the University of Tennessee Volunteers under head coach Phillip Fulmer. As a freshman, Manning started the season as a third-string quarterback. In the season opener against UCLA, Manning was one of three quarterbacks to come off the bench after starter Jerry Colquitt suffered a season-ending injury in the seventh game. However, Manning was unable to produce offense and withdrawn from the game. During the fourth game of the season, against Mississippi State, starter Todd Helton injured and Manning took over. The Vols lost 24-21, but Manning was appointed as team's starter and remained so for the rest of his college career. At the start of his first, next week against Washington State, the Vols won 10-9. They won all but one of the rest of their match, finishing the 8-4 season with a 45-23 victory over Virginia Tech in the 1994 Gator Bowl.

Manning and Vols started the 1995 season with a victory over East Carolina and the SEC rivaled Georgia, before leaving for Gainesville to face the opposing Gators. Against Florida, he threw for 326 yards and two touchdowns, leading the Vols to a 30-21 half-half lead. However, the Gators beat the 41-7 Vols in the second half, winning 62-37. This is the only defeat of the Vols this season, as they won their eight regular season games, including a 41-14 win over rivals Alabama and then beat Ohio State with a score of 20-14 in the Citrus Bowl. The Vols opened the 1996 season in rank # 2 behind Nebraska and one of the favorites to win the National Championship. However, after winning their first two games against UNLV and UCLA, the Vols again lost to Florida with a score of 35-29, with Manning throwing in four interceptions. After winning the next four games, the Vols is upset with Memphis, although Manning passes for 296 yards. Vols won the rest of their matches, including a 48-28 victory at Citrus Bowl over Northwestern, a match in which Manning graduated for 408 yards and four goals; he's named MVP game. In his senior season, the Vols opened the season with victories against Texas Tech and UCLA, but for the third time in his career, Manning fell to Florida 33-20. The Vols won the remainder of their regular season game, finishing 10-1, and progressing to the SEC Championship game against Auburn. Down 20-7 in the second quarter, Manning led the Vols to a 30-29 victory. Throwing for four goals, he was named MVP game, but injured himself in the process. The # 3 Vols are matched with # 2 Nebraska in the Orange Bowl; if Tennessee wins and top-ranking Michigan loses out to Washington State at the Rose Bowl, the Vols will win a national championship. However, the Vols defense could not stop Nebraska's rushing attack, delivering more than 400 meters that surged in a 42-17 loss. As a senior, Manning won many awards; he was the first All-American consensus team, winner of the Maxwell Prize, award-winning Davey O'Brien, winner of Unitas Johnny Award, and Best College Player ESPY award winner, among others. He finished as runner-up to Charles Woodson in the 1997 Heisman Trophy voting. In 2005, Tennessee retired his Manning number (No. 16). One of the roads leading to Neyland Stadium has been renamed Peyton Manning Pass. While at the University of Tennessee, Manning excelled academically and was selected for the Phi Beta Kappa Society in 1997 and was awarded the National Football Foundation's National Scholar-Athlete Award.

Manning was selected by the Indianapolis Colts by selecting the first overall of the 1998 NFL Draft. He will start as a rookie and continue to play for the Colts for 13 full seasons before being sidelined with a neck injury, which made him spend the entire 2011 season. Having recovered from injury, he was freed by the Colts. and joined the Denver Broncos for whom he played from the 2012 season until the 2015 season. Excluding the year lost due to a neck injury, Manning played in 17 NFL seasons.
Manning is considered one of the greatest NFL quarterbacks of all time. He was named the NFL's most valuable player, a record five times (four times as Colt, once as Bronco), named Pro Bowl a record 14 times and named first team All-Pro seven times. As a starter until the end of the 2015 season, he has a career winning percentage of 0.702 in the regular season. He holds the NFL record for passing career touchdown and past career yard, achieved in 2014 and 2015, respectively.
The most frequently cited critique of Manning's professional career is that despite his great success and statistics striking during the regular season, he does not enjoy a similar level of success in the post-season. His post-season career record is 14-13 more modest, compared to his regular season record throughout the 2015 season, which is 186-79. Manning won two Super Bowls (Super Bowl XLI and Super Bowl 50) and played in two others (Super Bowl XLIV and Super Bowl XLVIII), named MVP XLI, while losing XLIV in annoyance, and managing only one successful touchdown drive in each -in XLVIII and 50. 1998 season: rookie season
Despite concerns about arm strength and mobility, Manning was chosen first overall in the NFL Draft 1998 by the Indianapolis Colts. Although many consider Washington State quarterback Ryan Leaf his rival for the first selection in the draft, and the Leaf quarterback rating is higher, all six Sports Illustrated experts consulted believe that Manning is superior. In Manning's rookie season under head coach Jim Mora, he graduated for 3,739 yards with 26 goals, set five different rookie NFL records including most passing goals in a single season, mostly interception (28) in the rookie year, and was named the NFL Team First All-Rookie. In his NFL debut, Manning was 21-of-37 for 302 passing yards for one goal and three interceptions. He threw his first career goal, a six-yard bait into Marvin Harrison, in the fourth quarter of a 24-15 defeat. On Sunday 4th, against the New Orleans Saints, he threw a 78-yard touchdown bait into Marshall Faulk in a 19-13 loss. Manning's first win came against fellow rookie Leaf, 17-12 at the San Diego Chargers in Sunday 5. Manning and Colts opened the 1999 season with a 31-14 win over Buffalo, but gave up a 28-7 lead the following week against the Patriots and lost 31-28. After defeating San Diego 27-19 in a match where Manning threw over 404 yards, scored his first professional striker's goal, and was named AFC Offensive Player of the Week, they lost again, to Miami with a score of 34-31. The Colts responded by winning 11 of their remaining 12 matches, finishing 13-3 and the East AFC division. The Colts started the 2000 season with an opening weekend win against Kansas City, then blew a 21-0 lead against the Raiders. The Colts responded with a winning of Monday Night Football against Jacksonville, a 43-14 victory in which Manning had 430Ã, yard and 4 goals; Manning was crowned AFC Offensive Offensive this week for this performance. The Colts won four of the next five games, including one against New England where Manning posted the first perfect passerby ranking of his career but then lost four of five games after that. Manning and Colts introduced the offense without hassle, and used it very effectively in the week 1 defeat of the Jets, 45-24. Two weeks later (Sunday 2 match was not played on schedule due to 9/11 attacks) The Colts advanced to 2-0 with victory over Buffalo, behind 421 yards of Manning's passing. He was named Offensive Officer of AFC of the Week for this match. However, the Colts lost the next week to New England, and continued their decline, losing their next two games. The Colts had rebounded, won two games, but then lost seven of their last nine games. In that stretch, Manning threw a career-high 86-yard goal into Marcus Pollard in a 34-20 defeat over the New Orleans Saints. After losing 40-21 homes to 49ers, where Manning threw four high-career interceptions in the game, coach Jim Mora pronounced the famous "Playoffs? Do not talk about the playoffs," press conference.

Prior to the 2002 season, Tony Dungy became Manning's second head coach in the NFL. The Colts started the 2002 season with a 4-1 record, before three successive defeats sent them to 4-4. The Colts responded by winning all but two of their remaining games, including a 35-13 defeat of the Eagles where Manning had the perfect passer rating for the second time in his career, giving them a 10-6 record and a place in the playoffs.
However, the Colts were pelted by the New York Jets in the Wild Card Round, 41-0, with Manning passing just 137 yards. He finished the 2002 season with 4,200 spins over the yard and 27 over the touchdown and named it for the Pro Bowl team.

season 2003: first MVP
Colts 2003 began the 5-0 season, including a 55-21 blast from the Saints where Manning recorded his third perfect cross-game rating and threw six goal bait, earning him AFC Offensive Officer from the Sunday award. On Monday Night Football, against defending champions Buccaneers, Manning and Colts were 35-14 in the last five minutes. After a short touchdown drive, the Colts recovered an onside kick. Manning threw a 28-yard touchdown bait into Marvin Harrison in 4th & amp; 6 to make it 35-28. With 1:41 remaining time, Manning got the ball back and launched an 85-yard strike to touchdown the game. He graduated for 377 yards and five goals in the game, earning him a perfect passer score, the second of this season and fourth of his career. After the match, Manning was awarded Player of the Week for the third time that season. In the Division Act, Manning led the Colts to a 38-31 victory over Kansas City Chief. In the AFC Championship, Manning was closed by a top-ranked New England Patriots defense and posted the third lowest rank in his career at 35.5. The Patriots defense intercepted Manning four times and fired him four more, when the Colts lost the game with a score of 24-14.
During the season, Manning was named AFC Offensive Player of the Month for September and was named AP NFL co-MVP along with Titans quarterback Steve McNair. Manning also received the ESPY Award for Best NFL Players.

The Colts 2004 opened the season with a 27-24 loss to the Patriots, after Placekicker's Mike Vanderjagt missed a batting-field goal in the closing seconds of the game. The Colts won the next four games including a 45-31 victory over Green Bay where Manning scored five goals, earning him the AFC Footballer of the Week award but then losing the next two games to Jacksonville and Kansas City, though Manning threw the ball. for 840 yards combined in two matches. The Colts responded well, winning the next eight games before losing their last regular season game to Denver, a match in which Manning played only the first series. During November, Manning was crowned AFC Footballer of the Week twice this week; once for a five-touchdown performance in a 49-14 blast from Houston and once for his performance in a 41-9 win at Detroit on Thanksgiving where he threw six goals in less than three quarters. Due to his performance in November, Manning won the AFC Offensive Player of the Month award. In the playoffs, Pittsburgh Steelers visited the RCA Dome for the second AFC division playoff game of the 2005 season. The Colts proceed to score, and get the ball back to three points near the end of the game. In fourth, Manning was fired near his own goal line, and the game seemed to end because the Steelers were one yard away from touchdown. In the next game, the ball groped by running back Jerome Bettis and was picked up by Colts defender Nick Harper who seemed to have a clear path on the sidelines for what might be a match-winning score. However, Steelers' quarterback Ben Roethlisberger plunged in front of Harper and tackled his feet, saving a goal. Then the Colts drove on the pitch to the 27-yard Steelers line, before Mike Vanderjagt failed to score a field goal due to time runs out.
Manning was second in the vote for the MVP award to Seattle Seahawks running back Shaun Alexander ended his streak in two years. He was crowned 2005 winner of the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award and nominated for FedEx Air Player of the Year Award, along with Tom Brady and Carson Palmer. Season 2006: first Super Bowl Championship
Manning opened the 2006 season against his brother Eli New York Giants on Sunday Night Football. This is the first NFL match with an early quarterback which is a sibling, and Peyton's team won 26-21. Manning graduated for 400 yards against the Texans in a 43-24 victory, which earned him the AFC of the Week (he also won the award for 345 yards and four goals through Redskins in Week 7).
