src: static1.businessinsider.com

Peyton Williams Manning (born March 24, 1976) is a former American football quarterback who plays 18 seasons in the National Football League (NFL), especially with the Indianapolis Colts. Considered one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time due to many of his career achievements, he spent 14 seasons with the Colts and became a member of the Denver Broncos in his last four seasons. Manning played college football for the University of Tennessee, leading Tennessee Volunteers to the 1997 SEC Championship in his senior season. He is the second son of former NFL player, Archie Manning and brother of New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning.

Manning was chosen by the Colts as the first overall pick in the 1998 NFL Draft. From 1998 to 2010, he increased the luck of the struggling Colts franchise and helped turn them into consistent playoff rivals. During his initial quarterback, Manning led the team to eight division championships, two AFC championships, and one Super Bowl title, the first franchise in over three decades, and the first since moving to Indianapolis.

After undergoing a neck surgery that forced him to miss the entire 2011 season, Manning was freed by the Colts and signed with the Broncos. Serving as the team's early quarterback from 2012 to 2015, it contributes to the Broncos reaching the top of their division every year and his playing career closes with a victory at the Super Bowl 50.

Manning holds many NFL records, including over the yard (71,940), touchdown pass (539), AP MVP award (5), Pro Bowl appearance (14), seasons passing 4,000 yards (14), season passing one season (5,477 in 2013) and a single season touchdown (55 in 2013). Super Bowl winner twice and the most valuable player of the Super Bowl XLI, Manning is also the only quarterback to start the Super Bowl for two different franchises more than once each, with different trainers at the beginning of each Super Bowl (Dungy, Caldwell, Fox, Kubiak), and the only early quarterback to win the Super Bowl with two different franchises. At age 39, Manning was the oldest midfielder to start and win the Super Bowl, a feat that was matched the following year by Tom Brady.

During the 2009 Nighttime Football game, Manning received the nickname "The Sheriff" from color commentator Jon Gruden because of his tendency to be heard before the snap, and he is one of the best known and parodied players in the NFL. The team led by Manning usually utilizes a rush attack at a standard huddle place.

High school career

Manning attended Isidore Newman School in New Orleans, Louisiana, and led their football team to a 34-5 record for three seasons as a starter. He was named Gatorade Circle of Champions National Players of the Year and Columbus (Ohio) Touchdown Club National Offensive Player-of-the-Year in 1993. While at Newman, he began wearing jersey # 18 in honor of his older brother Cooper, who were forced to give up football because of spinal stenosis. Eli's younger brother also wore the number when he started to become a quarterback. Newman has since retired jersey # 18 and it can be seen hanging in the school gym. Manning is one of the most sought-after middle school players in the country and was recruited by about 60 colleges, led by Florida, Florida State, LSU, Michigan, Tennessee, Texas, Texas A & amp; M, and his father's alma mater, Ole Miss.

College career

Manning chose to play college football for the University of Tennessee Volunteers under head coach Phillip Fulmer. Many fans were surprised that he did not choose Ole Miss Rebels, played by his father, Archie, and Peyton's parents received some angry phone calls and letters. He became Tennessee's all-time leading pioneer with 11,201 yards and 89 goals and won 39 of 45 matches as a starter, breaking Southeastern Conference (SEC) records for career victory.

season 1994

As a freshman, Manning started the season as a third-string quarterback. In the season opener against UCLA, Manning was one of three quarterbacks to come off the bench after starter Jerry Colquitt suffered a season-ending injury in the seventh game. However, Manning was unable to produce offense and withdrawn from the game. During the fourth game of the season, against Mississippi State, starter Todd Helton injured and Manning took over. The Vols lost 24-21, but Manning was appointed as team's starter and remained so for the rest of his college career. At the start of his first, next week against Washington State, the Vols won 10-9. They won all but one of the rest of their match, finishing the 8-4 season with a 45-23 victory over Virginia Tech in the 1994 Gator Bowl.

season 1995

Manning and Vols started the 1995 season with a victory over East Carolina and the SEC rivaled Georgia, before leaving for Gainesville to face the opposing Gators. Against Florida, he threw for 326 yards and two touchdowns, leading the Vols to a 30-21 half-half lead. However, the Gators beat the 41-7 Vols in the second half, winning 62-37. This is the only defeat of the Vols this season, as they won their eight regular season games, including a 41-14 win over rivals Alabama and then beat Ohio State with a score of 20-14 in the Citrus Bowl. The Vols ended the season in third place and Manning finished sixth in the Heisman Trophy.

season 1996

The Vols opened the 1996 season in rank # 2 behind Nebraska and one of the favorites to win the National Championship. However, after winning their first two games against UNLV and UCLA, the Vols again lost to Florida with a score of 35-29, with Manning throwing in four interceptions. After winning the next four games, the Vols is upset with Memphis, although Manning passes for 296 yards. Vols won the rest of their matches, including a 48-28 victory at Citrus Bowl over Northwestern, a match in which Manning graduated for 408 yards and four goals; he's named MVP game. Graduates 243 graduated and 63.9% completion percentage led SEC that year. In the 1996 season, Manning finished in eighth place in the Heisman Trophy voting.

Manning completed his degree in three years, a Bachelor of Arts degree in speech communication, and is projected to be an overall choice in the NFL Draft, but returns to Tennessee for his senior year.

season 1997

In his senior season, the Vols opened the season with victories against Texas Tech and UCLA, but for the third time in his career, Manning fell to Florida 33-20. The Vols won the remainder of their regular season game, finishing 10-1, and progressing to the SEC Championship game against Auburn. Down 20-7 in the second quarter, Manning led the Vols to a 30-29 victory. Throwing for four goals, he was named MVP game, but injured himself in the process. The # 3 Vols are matched with # 2 Nebraska in the Orange Bowl; if Tennessee wins and top-ranking Michigan loses out to Washington State at the Rose Bowl, the Vols will win a national championship. However, the Vols defense could not stop Nebraska's rushing attack, delivering more than 400 meters that surged in a 42-17 loss. As a senior, Manning won many awards; he was the first All-American consensus team, winner of the Maxwell Prize, award-winning Davey O'Brien, winner of Unitas Johnny Award, and Best College Player ESPY award winner, among others. He finished as runner-up to Charles Woodson in the 1997 Heisman Trophy voting. In 2005, Tennessee retired his Manning number (No. 16). One of the roads leading to Neyland Stadium has been renamed Peyton Manning Pass. While at the University of Tennessee, Manning excelled academically and was selected for the Phi Beta Kappa Society in 1997 and was awarded the National Football Foundation's National Scholar-Athlete Award.

Sexual harassment harassment

In 1996, while attending the University of Tennessee, Manning was accused of sexually harassing by female coach Jamie Ann Naughright after she opened her ass during a foot examination. Manning says that he's just pulling a joke by "daydreaming" the other athletes in the room as Naughright bends to inspect him. Naughright settled with a university for $ 300,000 and resigned from school.

Post-college awards

Manning was sworn in to Tennessee Athletics Hall of Fame in 2016. He was also named Tennessean of the Year 2016 by the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame. Manning was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame in 2017, the first year of eligibility for honor, and sworn in during the ceremony in December. He will join his father Archie in the hall, making them the first father and son of both duo to be sworn in as a player.

Professional career

Overview

Manning was selected by the Indianapolis Colts by selecting the first overall of the 1998 NFL Draft. He will start as a rookie and continue to play for the Colts for 13 full seasons before being sidelined with a neck injury, which made him spend the entire 2011 season. Having recovered from injury, he was freed by the Colts. and joined the Denver Broncos for whom he played from the 2012 season until the 2015 season. Excluding the year lost due to a neck injury, Manning played in 17 NFL seasons.

Manning is considered one of the greatest NFL quarterbacks of all time. He was named the NFL's most valuable player, a record five times (four times as Colt, once as Bronco), named Pro Bowl a record 14 times and named first team All-Pro seven times. As a starter until the end of the 2015 season, he has a career winning percentage of 0.702 in the regular season. He holds the NFL record for passing career touchdown and past career yard, achieved in 2014 and 2015, respectively.

The most frequently cited critique of Manning's professional career is that despite his great success and statistics striking during the regular season, he does not enjoy a similar level of success in the post-season. His post-season career record is 14-13 more modest, compared to his regular season record throughout the 2015 season, which is 186-79. Manning won two Super Bowls (Super Bowl XLI and Super Bowl 50) and played in two others (Super Bowl XLIV and Super Bowl XLVIII), named MVP XLI, while losing XLIV in annoyance, and managing only one successful touchdown drive in each -in XLVIII and 50. During the early part of Manning's career, "record-breaking statistics were removed due to postseason colts failure"; on the contrary he posted bad stats in the 2015 regular season and the Super Bowl 50, which will be his final season, but still won the Super Bowl both thanks to his team's defense. Manning is also the only quarterback in NFL history to make the Super Bowl four times with four different head coaches (Dungy, Caldwell, Fox and Kubiak).

Indianapolis Colts

1998 season: rookie season

Despite concerns about arm strength and mobility, Manning was chosen first overall in the NFL Draft 1998 by the Indianapolis Colts. Although many consider Washington State quarterback Ryan Leaf his rival for the first selection in the draft, and the Leaf quarterback rating is higher, all six Sports Illustrated experts consulted believe that Manning is superior. Five said that they would take him first in the draft; Sid Gillman said of Manning, "this is a quarterback pro". Scouts Colts initially favored Leaf, but team and coach management gradually won by Manning's attitude, especially when Manning appeared preparing for a scheduled interview meeting with Colts staff while Leaf arrived late. Colts general manager Bill Polian who has the final decision on the draft selection reminds Manning saying "I'll leave you with this thought. If you take me I promise you we will win the championship If you do not, I promise I'll come back and kick your ass. "

In Manning's rookie season under head coach Jim Mora, he graduated for 3,739 yards with 26 goals, set five different rookie NFL records including most passing goals in a single season, mostly interception (28) in the rookie year, and was named the NFL Team First All-Rookie. In his NFL debut, Manning was 21-of-37 for 302 passing yards for one goal and three interceptions. He threw his first career goal, a six-yard bait into Marvin Harrison, in the fourth quarter of a 24-15 defeat. On Sunday 4th, against the New Orleans Saints, he threw a 78-yard touchdown bait into Marshall Faulk in a 19-13 loss. Manning's first win came against fellow rookie Leaf, 17-12 at the San Diego Chargers in Sunday 5. Two weeks later, Manning faced off against Steve Young; he threw three goals, tying the rookie Colts record, but the 49ers kicked a late field goal to win 34-31. In November against the New York Jets, Manning made it three goals in a 24-23 victory; he was named AFC Offensive Offensive this Week for this show. This was the first drive to win Manning's career match, as he threw a match winning touchdown pass to Marcus Pollard. Manning was clearly a bright spot in the 1998 season for the Colts with 3,739 passing yards and 26 touchdowns, but he also threw a high league 28 interceptions as the team fought for a 3-13 record with a defense that surrendered more than 27 points per game. The Colts lost many close matches, including five games where they led with double digits at some point.

season 1999

Manning and Colts opened the 1999 season with a 31-14 win over Buffalo, but gave up a 28-7 lead the following week against the Patriots and lost 31-28. After defeating San Diego 27-19 in a match where Manning threw over 404 yards, scored his first professional striker's goal, and was named AFC Offensive Player of the Week, they lost again, to Miami with a score of 34-31. The Colts responded by winning 11 of their remaining 12 matches, finishing 13-3 and the East AFC division. On Sunday 11th, against the Philadelphia Eagles, Manning performed an 80-yard pass in the summer to Terrence Wilkins in a 44-17 victory. The ten-game tournament from the previous year set an NFL record.

The seven drivers who won the match were tied for the most in NFL history until Matthew Stafford had eight in the 2016 season.

As the second seed in the AFC, the Colts earned a first-round bye, and faced Tennessee in the playoffs. The Colts lost 19-16 for the Super Bowl-bound Titans and Manning was limited to 19-of-42 passing attempts for 227 passing yards and one touchdown run.

Manning finished the year with 4,135 passing yards and 26 touchdowns, and named both teams-Both All-Pro and to the Pro Bowl, both were first for him. At Pro Bowl, he graduated for 270 yards with 2 goals.

Manning made four goals in victory and was once again named AFC Offensive Offensive this Sunday and victory gave Colts a 10 -6 Record as well as a wild card place in the playoffs. season 2001

Manning and Colts introduced the offense without hassle, and used it very effectively in the week 1 defeat of the Jets, 45-24. Two weeks later (Sunday 2 match was not played on schedule due to 9/11 attacks) The Colts advanced to 2-0 with victory over Buffalo, behind 421 yards of Manning's passing. He was named Offensive Officer of AFC of the Week for this match. However, the Colts lost the next week to New England, and continued their decline, losing their next two games. The Colts had rebounded, won two games, but then lost seven of their last nine games. In that stretch, Manning threw a career-high 86-yard goal into Marcus Pollard in a 34-20 defeat over the New Orleans Saints. After losing 40-21 homes to 49ers, where Manning threw four high-career interceptions in the game, coach Jim Mora pronounced the famous "Playoffs? Do not talk about the playoffs," press conference.

Despite the record of 6-10, Manning finished the season with 4,131 spins over the yard , 26th span past touchdown , and four rushing touchdowns for offense earned the second most points in the league. However, the defense allowed the most points and Mora was sacked after this season.

season 2002

Prior to the 2002 season, Tony Dungy became Manning's second head coach in the NFL. The Colts started the 2002 season with a 4-1 record, before three successive defeats sent them to 4-4. The Colts responded by winning all but two of their remaining games, including a 35-13 defeat of the Eagles where Manning had the perfect passer rating for the second time in his career, giving them a 10-6 record and a place in the playoffs.

However, the Colts were pelted by the New York Jets in the Wild Card Round, 41-0, with Manning passing just 137 yards. He finished the 2002 season with 4,200 spins over the yard and 27 over the touchdown and named it for the Pro Bowl team.

season 2005

In 2005, the Colts experienced an excellent defense upgrade over the past few years. Combining this with their offense, they won their first 13 games, including a 40-21 victory of defending champion Super Bowl twice, New England. This was Manning's first win on the road against Patriot in eight attempts, and his three goals earned him the AFC Offensive Player of the Week. Manning finished the 2005 season with a 3,747 passing yard , the first time he had thrown under 4,000 yards since the rookie season in 1998, largely because Manning sat in many of the last two games with top seeded AFC seeds. The Colts proceed to score, and get the ball back to three points near the end of the game. In fourth, Manning was fired near his own goal line, and the game seemed to end because the Steelers were one yard away from touchdown. In the next game, the ball groped by running back Jerome Bettis and was picked up by Colts defender Nick Harper who seemed to have a clear path on the sidelines for what might be a match-winning score. However, Steelers' quarterback Ben Roethlisberger plunged in front of Harper and tackled his feet, saving a goal. Then the Colts drove on the pitch to the 27-yard Steelers line, before Mike Vanderjagt failed to score a field goal due to time runs out.

Manning graduated for 400 yards against the Texans in a 43-24 victory, which earned him the AFC of the Week (he also won the award for 345 yards and four goals through Redskins in Week 7). The second trip to New Jersey, this time to play the Jets, resulted in another Colts victory. After leading twice in the fourth quarter, Manning had to lead a third scoring drive, this time ending with a quarterback yard slipping down at the last minute for a 31-28 victory.

In Denver, Manning once again led three scoring drives in the fourth quarter in a 34-31 victory. He completed a 32-of-39 pass for 345 yards and three goals. After the second season in a row with victory in New England, then a home win against Buffalo, the Colts were the NFL's last undefeated team at 9-0. Their first loss will come in Dallas. Plagued by a sprint defense that will allow more than 100 yards in every game, the Colts are 11-4 into their final game. Against Miami, Manning threw for 282 yards, two goals and rushed for another goal. The Colts won 27-22, was the AFC Southern division champion, and won third seed in the AFC playoffs. Completed 25-of-38 tickets for 247 yards with touchdowns and one interception, Manning led the Colts to a 29-17 victory over the Chicago Bears at Super Bowl XLI and was selected as the Super Bowl MVP. Manning, who has been criticized for failing to win a big game, cast out his great demon with a win. "In the last years when our team got over it was disappointing," he told reporters. "Somehow we found a way to learn from some of that loss and we became a better team because of it." For his role in the Colts championship, Manning was awarded ESPY for the Best Championship. Manning was again named Pro Bowl and also called the Second Team All-Pro; in Pro Bowl he only played two series, passing 67 yards. After winning the Super Bowl, Manning agreed to restructure his contract to save the $ 8.2 million Colts in the payroll space.

2007 season

Manning's Colts opened the NFL season with 7 wins, pitting them against an unbeaten Patriot team in a match called "Super Bowl 41 1/2". Manning and Addai helped the Colts lead 13-7 in the first half, and the early goal of the fourth quarter climbed the lead up to 20-10. However, Brady led the Patriots to the last two goals, to give Manning his first defeat of the season, 24-20. Manning ended the match with a distance of 225 meters, including a passing goal. He also has a hasty touchdown.

Manning did not bounce back from defeat well. Against the San Diego Chargers, he threw for six career-worst interceptions and franchise-records. Nonetheless, he was able to raise the Colts from 23-0 deficit to 23-21, and gave Adam Vinatieri a chance to lead with a 29-yard field goal. However, Vinatieri's effort failed, and the Colts fell to 7-2. Manning did not play very well against the Kansas City Head either, not throwing a goal. However, he managed to lead the Colts on the last mover for a winning field goal, rushing for two yards in the 4th and 1st minutes in the process. Manning finished the match with 163 over the yard , allowing him to overtake 40,000 in his career. Victory is 100 Manning.

The Colts won the next five games, securing another AFC South title, as well as AFC's number two seed in the play-offs. In that stretch was Sunday's September 13-25 victory over Jacksonville Jaguars where he was 20 from 29 to 288 passing yards, four goals, and interception. For his performance against Jaguars, he was named AFC Offensive Player of the Week. In the last game of the regular season, Manning only played two series before being replaced with reserve player Jim Sorgi; The Colts lost the game to the Titans, 16-10.
