The snell knot is the node hitch used to attach a fishing hook to the fishing rod. The hooks tied with a snell knot draw a straight line flat to the fish. It passes the hooks, but is mainly attached to the shaft. This is a very safe node, but because it is easily tied only by using a near end as a workpiece, it is used to attach a hook only to a leader, rather than directly to the main line.
Hooks can be purchased with pre-snelled.
