The Brick Testament is a project created by Elbe Spurling in which biblical stories are illustrated by using photographs of dioramas made entirely of Lego bricks.
The project started as a website in October 2001 featuring six stories from the Genesis book, and is completely unaffiliated with the Lego company. There is also a series of Brick Books.
The whole story is retold using verses from the Bible, with chapters and verses quoted, words that become free adaptations that Spurling says are based on a number of public domain Bible translations. Sometimes, most when the image is used to contrast with the underlying scriptures, Spurling dramatizes the image with additional text. The text is shown in gray instead of plain black.

Spurling comments themselves sometimes appear in the illustrations and are displayed in gray text, and also as the original title for the story itself. For example, Spurling presents a story entitled, "Stephen Gets Stoned" which is based on the New Testament book, Acts, chapters 6-7. The scriptures are quoted just below the illustrations and comments:
- The scriptures: Acts 6:10 But they can not resist the wisdom and spirit that Stephen tells.
- Illustrations and comments: A man pictured holding a scroll in front of a crowd with a speech bubble saying: If you look at some phrases here and there and completely ignore the original context, really predict Jesus!
The Rolling Stone article that is included as a link on the Brick Agreement website shows that Spurling is an atheist. By 2015 Spurling announced on Facebook that he is an atheist, a transgender woman, and a lesbian, and has officially changed his name to Elbe Spurling but is likely to retain his birth name, Brendan Powell Smith, for his books.

Lego Technique
The diorama seen in The Brick Testament is made from Luros Spurling's private collection. The pieces come from hundreds of Lego devices dating from the 1960s to the present.
In some instances where changes are made to Lego elements, they generally make simple changes with a hobby knife or permanent marker. An example of change is God's hair: Spurling makes God's white hair by carving out a piece of white helmet (found in Peeron). The only really non-Lego part of the Spurling scene is the background of the sky.
All Spurling images are digital. Spurs photographed the early scene with Nikon Coolpix 950. He now uses Nikon Coolpix 4500. After photographing the scene, he adds speech balloons and sometimes makes changes using the image editing software.

The Mormon Brick Book
In a Facebook post created on April 3, 2015, Spurling announced a new project titled Brick Book of Mormon. The stated objective of the project is "to make these teachings better known in the world, designed to capture the interest of non-Mormon people who want to know what the LDS Church teaches, and to trust Mormons to find new, fun ways to learn and share the history and teachings of their church. The project is currently in a RESEARCH FASE where I have spent months immersing myself in the scriptures and teaching manuals from the LDS Church and taking hundreds and hundreds of pages of notes The next phase, all these notes will be done into a script from which the illustration phase will begin. It has not yet determined whether the Mormon Brick will be first published as a book (such as The Brick Chronicle series) or whether it will first publish to the web and then go to print (such as The Brick Bible). "The project was officially launched on February 6, 2017.
