Experts in the Card Table , originally titled Artifice, Ruse and Subterfuge at the Card Table: The Paper on Arts and Manipulates Cards , often referred to simply as Erdnase , is an extensive book on the art of hand magic published in 1902 by SW Erdnase, a pseudonymous writer whose identity remains a mystery for more than a century. As a detailed guide to sharp object cards, this book is regarded as one of the most influential works on magic or magic with cards.

Description of book
Despite its widespread influence on the wizarding community, the identity of the author remains an unsolved mystery. Many believe that his real name is E.S. Andrews (S.W. Erdnase is somewhat upside down). (See Gardner's Introduction, pp. Vii-ix.)
Originally the author began selling books for $ 2.00 in 1902 and the following year fell to $ 1.00 and he sold his rights. Although the author does not update his copyright, this book has remained in print since 1902, although sometimes there is a small personal print. The influence of this book in such a way as to be published in annotated form; translated into Japanese, German, Spanish, French, Italian and Russian; and published as a series of DVDs by professional magicians, demonstrating and explaining Erdnase's techniques and methods. The flagship event of the Expert of the Card Table story is also done regularly by the British magician, Guy Hollingworth.
Dai Vernon is credited with popularizing this influential text in the professional wizarding community. After passing the age of ninety, Vernon liked to quote him, with the page number, when discussing card techniques with his colleagues at Magic Castle.
In the Expert Card , Jean Hugard says, "... there may not be any other books on any list of magic books that have been so diligently read, so lovingly cared for." The glossary of Erdnase's term itself is very influential, and has been reproduced more or less directly by many authors, including Hugard, and Henry Hay.

Movie adaptation
A film based on the life of a mysterious author, adapted by German director Hans-Joachim Brucherseifer, is currently in production. The magicians Yann Yuro (S.W. Erdnase) and Alfonso Rituerto (himself) played a major role. It is scheduled to be released in November, 2019.
