Michael Allen Austin (born August 30, 1965) is an American illustrator, best known for his work in children's books. Among the titles that have been illustrated are Cowpoke Clyde and Dirty Dawg, written by Lori Mortensen; The Horned Toad Prince, written by Jackie Mims Hopkins; and Railroad John and Red Rock Run, written by Tony Crunk. Illustrations also appear in magazines, such as Floodlight for Kids, Spiders and Cricket, and galleries and museums across the United States.

The elder of two sons, Austin grew up in Florida, drew favorite characters from The Addams Family, Scooby Doo, and Disney movies. At the beginning of college, Austin was trained to become a Medical Technologist, but later discovered he could not resist the call of art and changed his department. After college, he moved to New Orleans where he started his illustration career, creating an exhibition for the music industry. He now lives in Georgia with his wife, Kim, and their shepherd dog, Riley, who appears regularly in his books. Austin is represented by Portfolio Solutions in New York, and has served as a jury for the Young Writers 'Writers' Competition.
