As with all sports leagues, there is a significant amount of competition in the National Football League (NFL). Competition sometimes occurs due to certain events that cause bloodshed between teams, players, coaches, or owners, but for the most part, they appear only because of the frequency at which some teams play with each other, and sometimes there for geographical reasons.

Competition in the NFL is generally recognized as such by fans and players. While many rivalries are already established, others are newer models, accepted because of the nature of competition and history between the two teams. Other competition has fallen by the wayside due to the reordering of the league and the reduction of meeting frequency.

Pure geographical competition is rare in the NFL, as crossstown rivals do not play almost as often in other leagues that have more games (and therefore more chances to play other teams). For example, the Major League Baseball team faces each league opponent at least six times in the regular season, and in the division as many as 19 times. In recent years, the NFL changed its scheduling formula to ensure every possible fight occurred in a span of four years, excluding pre-season games or the Super Bowl. The main factor in the fact that crossstown rivals are almost always in opposite conferences is history: in the three current markets (New York/New Jersey, Los Angeles and San Francisco Bay Area) which have two NFL teams, all have one team ( Jet in New York, Raiders in Oakland, Chargers in Los Angeles) who are members of the American Football League. As part of the AFL-NFL merger, all AFL teams must be maintained, even if it means several teams within a metropolitan area. The newly joined league chooses not to go through extensive geographical arrangements, and on the contrary, AFL forms the basis of the AFC, and the old NFL forms the basis of the NFC; as a result, each team ends up at the opposite conference from their crosstown competitor. This allows the combined league to maintain existing television partnership in each league - NBC for AFL/AFC, and CBS for NFL/NFC - rather than choosing one or the other (ABC joined the mix in 1970 with Football Monday night ).

Division rivals

The match between opponents in the same NFL division. Since 2002, there are 32 teams in eight divisions of four teams each. Each team plays every second opposite division in the regular season (once at home, once again) with a total of six regular season games of a total of 16 games. Sometimes, two teams will play three times a year if they meet again in the playoffs. The Chiefs, Cowboys, Packers, and Steelers are the only teams with a winning record against all their current division opponents for the competition that will return for at least 20 years.

rival conference

Teams do not play conference opponents given from outside their division more than once during the regular season, but they may meet again for the second time in the playoffs. The NFL schedule division is playing each other in turns, so each team from one division will play every team from another division, with a total of four matches per team. Each team will also play one team from each of the two remaining divisions of the conference which finished in the same divisional stand position in the previous year - for a total of 20 conferences. Conferencing games are often important, because team records in public games, as well as their overall record of the conference, are sometimes used as tiebreakers for playoff seedlings at the end of the regular season. Also, many regular season opponents meet again in the playoffs, and the results of regular season matches can affect where playoff matches will be played. The conference contenders will play each other at least once every three years in the regular season, and every so often every year depends on the record, and can play each other in the pre-season.

Inter-conference

Teams do not play inter-conference opponents that are given more than once during the season unless they meet at the Super Bowl. The NFL schedules the inter-conference division to play each other exactly once in turns in a four-year cycle. For example, given the 2012 NFL season as a reference, NFC East plays AFC North during the 2012 season, then AFC West during the 2013 season, AFC South during the 2014 season, and finally AFC East in the 2015 season before. repeating the cycle. The league also schedules inter-conference matches in an eight-year cycle so that any particular team will host and visit teams awarded in the league within eight years. Inter-conference opponents can play each other more often in pre-season, where no structured scheduling formula is used.

AFC East

Buffalo Bills vs. Miami Dolphins

In the AFC East rivalry between Buffalo Bills and Miami Dolphins, both teams have played 104 regular-season games and playoffs, with the Dolphins having a 60-47-1 lead at the end of the 2017 season. The intensity of the competition comes from the Dolphins winning 20 games in a row against the Bills on 1970s, as well as the advent of Hall Kelly's Hall-of-Fame for Buffalo and Dan Marino for Miami in the 1980s and 1990s. The team also met four times in the NFL playoffs. The Bills are 3-1, including victories in the 1992 AFC Championship Match.

New York Jets vs New England Patriots

The match between the New York Jets and the New England Patriots often plays a fierce Yankees-Red Sox competition in Major League Baseball, as New York City and Boston are about 3 1/2 hours away by car. Recently, the Jets have been trying to overcome Patriot dominance in divisions and conferences, facing them in the playoffs twice in the span of five seasons. The Patriots defeated the Jets 37-16 in the 2006 playoffs, while the Jets won 28-21 in the 2010 playoffs. The series supports New England, 64-54-1 at the end of the 2017 season, including a 2-1 playoff record against the Jets.

Miami Dolphins vs. New York Jets

The Dolphins and Jets often compete for division supremacy, and have played a number of classic games. These included the game, known in NFL Lore as the Monday Night magic where the Jets erased a 30-7 lead after three quarters and won the game in overtime. The Jets lead the series 56-51-1 at the end of the 2016 season, while Dolphins have won their only playoff meeting, defeating the Jets in the 1982 AFC Championship Game.

New York Jets vs Buffalo Bills

Bills lead the series 63-55 at the end of the 2017 season. Both teams represent the state of New York. Short competition heats up when former Jets coach Rex Ryan is coaching for Buffalo.

Buffalo Bills vs. New England Patriots

The Patriot leads 72-43-1 at the end of the 2017 season. One of the tougher rivalries in the league, with Patriot controlling the series throughout the Tom Brady Era. Prior to Brady Era, Jim Kelly's Hall of Fame compiled a career record of 12-8 against the Patriots.

New England Patriots vs. Miami Dolphins

Dolphins lead 54-51 at the end of the 2017 season, but Patriot leads the all-time 2-1 playoff series. The rivalry had heated up during 2008 when the Dolphins became the first team in addition to the Patriot to win AFC East since 2002. The Patriots have recently gotten the upper hand, and since then dominated the East.

AFC North

Cleveland Browns vs. Baltimore Ravens

The Browns-Ravens rivalry at AFC North began with the reopening of the Browns franchise expansion in 1999, a direct result of the controversy over the Cleveland Browns relocation. The rivalry between Browns and Ravens is more directed at the former owner of Brown Art Modell than the team itself, and has, by most Raven fans, only considered a division game in Baltimore. Unlike the other two rivalries, this one is more oblique: with the Ravens leading in the 29-9 series.

Baltimore Ravens vs. Pittsburgh Steelers

The Ravens-Steelers rivalry at AFC North is one of the most intense in the NFL; they often compete for divisional supremacy. They are also known for packing hard and hard defense teams, giving their game an extra element of physical intensity.

Both teams have met in the playoffs four times, with three wins by Steelers (2001, 2008, 2010) and one by Ravens (2014). They are the only team at AFC North who have won the Super Bowl, and have a combined record of 8-2 in the match (Ravens win in both of their performances, all others coming from Steelers). The Steelers led the all-time 27-21 series at the end of the 2017 season, including a 3-1 playoff record against Baltimore.

Cincinnati Bengals vs. Cleveland Browns

This competition results in two highest scoring games in NFL history. Bengals led the 50-39 series at the end of the 2017 season.

Geography and common heritage add to this competition. Cleveland (Northeast) and Cincinnati (Southwest) are in opposite corners of the country and basically divide Ohio. In 1963, Cleveland Browns's legendary head coach, Paul Brown was fired by Art Modell. After his time with the Cleveland Browns, Brown made the decision to create his own team, giving birth to the Cincinnati Bengals franchise. The colors of each team are similar, because Paul Brown chose the exact color of orange used by Browns for Bengals, and the Bengals original uniform is identical to Browns uniform, excluding the word "Bengals" on the helmet.

The Bengals and Browns first played in 1970. Previously, Bengals were part of the AFL. After the AFL-NFL merger, Browns and Bengals are placed in the AFC Central Division. They have played twice a year since 1970, except in 1982 (the strike season of the cut player) and 1996-98 (controversy of the Cleveland Browns relocation).

Cincinnati Bengals vs. Pittsburgh Steelers

Both teams have played each other twice a year since becoming divisional rivals in 1970, the only exception being 1982, when the annual game in Cincinnati was canceled due to a players strike; the team only met on Sunday 2 in Pittsburgh the season before the start of the strike. Originally stationed at AFC Central after the AFL-NFL merger, the two teams currently compete in the division's successor, AFC North.

The rivalry is not historical enough like the Bengals-Browns rivalry; however, many Bengals fans regard the Steelers as their biggest rivals, such as the Cleveland Browns fans. (Steeler fans, however, often regard the Baltimore Ravens as their main rival.) It is debated which is a wider competition, but this specific competition is often classed as one of the bitter NFLs, mainly because the Steelers have more championships and match events playoff wild cards 2005 and 2015 between the two teams. Steelers led the series 62-35 at the end of the 2017 season, including a 2-0 playoff record against Cincinnati.

Cleveland Browns vs. Pittsburgh Steelers

The Browns-Steelers competition is one of the most storied in the American Football Conference and NFL. With 128 meetings and counting, this is the oldest competition and surpasses other AFC rivalries by at least 5 contests. Two enemy divisions have a natural competition because of the similarities between cities. Sometimes called Turnpike Rivalry because the majority of driving routes between two cities are connected via Pennsylvania and Ohio Turnpike. Steelers led the 74-58 series at the end of the 2017 season, including a 2-0 playoff record against Cleveland.

AFC South

Houston Texans vs. Tennessee Titans

Titans lead the series, 17-15 at the end of the 2017 season. This rivalry puts the old team representing Houston (Titans, as Oilers Houston) against the new team (Texas). Although Titan dominated the series from the start, the Texans have made it more competitive in recent times. An important moment involving Texas players, Andre Johnson and Cornland Titans Cortland Finnegan became a brawl during the 2010 battle.

Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Tennessee Titans

Titans lead the series 27-20 at the end of the 2017 season, including a 1-0 playoff record against Jacksonville.

AFC West

Denver Broncos vs. Oakland Raiders

The Raiders lead the series 63-52-2 at the end of the 2017 season, including a 1-1 playoff share between the two teams. including the playoffs. During the AFL days of the 1960s and up to 1976, the competition was tough, with the Raiders going 26-6-2, including 14 straight victories from 1965-71. The Broncos defeated the Raiders in the 1977 AFC Championships, en route to the first Super Bowl appearance. The Raiders won 13 of the 15 meetings from 1988-94, and led the series 49-20-2 in 1994. However, the Broncos reversed their fortunes against Raiders when Mike Shanahan became head coach of the Broncos in 1995. Shanahan coached The Raiders in 1988 before being fired four games into the 1989 season, and then engage in long-term contract disputes with Raiders owners, Al Davis. The Broncos went 21-7 against Oakland for 14 seasons that Shanahan coached the Broncos (1995-2008). In 2013, both teams have met 17 times on Monday Night Football, tied (with Cowboys & Redskins) to the most frequent pair in the history of Monday Night Football.

Head of Kansas City vs. Oakland Raiders

The Chiefs-Raiders rivalry is considered one of the most bitter NFLs. Since AFL was founded in 1960, the Chairman & amp; Raiders have shared the same division, first is the AFL Western Conference, & amp; since the AFL-NFL merger, AFC West.

Leaders lead the regular season series 64-54-2 at the end of the 2017 season, including a 2-1 playoff record against Oakland. The Chiefs are one of two teams in the NFL with a victory record against the Raiders (along with the New England Patriots, with 10 or more contests).

Oakland Raiders vs. Los Angeles Charger

The Chargers-Raiders rivalry took place in the 1963 season, when the Raiders beat the highly-favored Chargers twice, both coming from behind fourth-quarter wins. One of the most memorable games among these teams was the 1978 "Holy Roller" game, where the Raiders fumbled for touchdowns in a highly controversial game. On November 22, 1982, Raiders hosted their first Monday Night game in Los Angeles against Chargers. San Diego (Now in Los Angeles) led the game in the first round 24-0 until the Raiders entered the second half and made a great comeback and won 28-24. Oakland led the 63-52-2 series at the end of the 2017 season, including winning the only playoff game between the two teams, the AFC Championship 1980 game).

Denver Broncos vs. Head of Kansas City

Leaders led 61-55 at the end of the 2017 season, but the Broncos won the only playoff game between the two teams, the 1997 AFC Divisional game.

Denver Broncos vs. Los Angeles Charger

The Broncos lead 66-51-1 at the end of the 2017 season, including after winning the only playoff meeting between the two teams, a game of the 2013 AFC division.

Head of Kansas City vs. Los Angeles Charger

Leaders lead 60-55-1 at the end of the 2017 season, but Chargers won the only playoff encounter between the two teams, the 1992 AFC Wild Card game. The Chiefs, Green Bay Packers, and Dallas Cowboys are the only three teams in the NFL who have playing all their division rivals for at least 100 games and having an all-time winning record against them all, while the Philadelphia Eagles, Chargers and Detroit Lions are the only three teams in the NFL who have played all their division rivals at least 100 games and have a record of losing all time against them all.

Conference competition

Denver Broncos vs. New England Patriots

The Broncos lead 30-23 at the end of the 2017 season, including a 4-1 playoff record against New England. In recent history, the Broncos and Patriots meet in the postseason twice in three years, both in the AFC Championship Games 2013 and 2015. The Broncos won both games, earning the right to represent the AFC in Super Bowl 48 and 50.

New England Patriots vs. Pittsburgh Steelers

Indianapolis Colts vs. New England Patriots

The Colts-Patriots rivalry is one of the most famous NFLs. Both teams joined for seven Super Bowl (five by Patriot) and nine AFC Championships since 1970, while both were noted for their organizational excellence. Patriots lead 51-29 at the end of the 2016 season, including a 4-1 playoff record against Indianapolis.

The nature of the rivalry is somewhat ironic because while the Colts and Patriots are rivals of the Eastern AFC division from 1970-2001 (dating back to the Colts in Baltimore), their increasing hostility is not common until Indianapolis is moved into the newly formed. AFC South followed the 2001 season as part of the NFL rearrangement. The two teams did not meet in 2002 but meet annually from 2003-12. From the first match of rival renewal (38-34 Patriots victories highlighted by last second goalline stand) the rivalry has been very close: following the 31-24 New England victory in 2011, the Patriots lead the series with seven wins (two in the playoffs) versus five wins (one playoffs) for the Colts, and the Patriots hold a slim edge in the printed points, 319-305. The Colts and Patriots meet annually from 2003-2015 as both teams often end up in the same position in their divisions. Other AFC East teams are only able to play the Colts when the Eastern and Southern divisions are scheduled to play full interlocking schedules.

The modern fight is often referred to as a contest between the future Hall of Famers Peyton Manning and Tom Brady, who together have won six NFL MVP awards in eight years (2003-10; four by Manning). Tom Brady received his first start against the Colts after an injury to starter Drew Bledsoe, and went on to beat the Colts in his first six games against them in subsequent years, including the 2003 AFC Championship and the 2004 AFC Division playoff game. The Colts won their next 3 games, scoring two regular season wins and winning in the 2006 AFC Championship Game on their way to their victory at Super Bowl XLI. The Patriots' 2007 quest for a perfect season included a 24-20 comeback win in their last visit to the RCA Dome. The Colts won the next two; in the 2009 Super Bowl season they won 35-34 after the 4th and 2nd call by Bill Belichick. The 2010 battle is Indy's first trip to Gillette Stadium since 2006; Manning last minute interception ended with a Patriot 31-28 win. In 2011, the Patriots defeated the Colts without Manning playing, 31-24.

In 2012, the Patriots rudely welcomed Colts rookie quarterback Andrew Luck to the competition, restoring two intercepts thrown by the first pick of the NFL Draft 2012 for a touchdown on the way to a 59-24 blast. The result was the same for both teams in the AFC division's 2013 playoff game as New England advanced to a 43-22 victory. On November 16, 2014, at Lucas Oil Stadium, New England beat Indianapolis 42-20 behind a 210-yard distance from Jonas Gray, who also set a Patriot's franchise record with four goals in the match.

In the AFC Championship game for the 2014 NFL season, the competition increased again when the Patriots were accused of cheating by deliberately playing with less inflated balls, after beating Colts 45-7. Dubbed Deflategate, intense media surveillance followed which exploded for a number of reasons, including a two-week lead up to Super Bowl XLIX and the "Spygate" scandal of 2006. There was also a call for the Patriots to be banned from the Super Bowl XLIX, which the Patriot finally won the Seattle Seahawks, 28-24. Subsequent investigations, including the Wells Report, went on to state that Tom Brady's quarterback, "more likely than not, was at least generally conscious" to use underneath an increasing foot ball in the game. Brady was also quoted for lacking co-operation with the investigation. The Patriots were fined 1 million dollars, and docked 1st and 2017 rounds of the 4th draft of their picks. Brady was given a 4-match suspension for the 2015 NFL season; the suspension was canceled for the 2015 season by Judge Richard Berman and Brady playing the entire season, including Sunday's Sixth game against the Colts. Brady was suspended for the first four games of the 2016 season after failing to appeal his suspension when it was restored in 2016.

The Patriots won their latest scheduled meeting on October 18, 2015, with a score of 34-27. This is their first meeting since the 2015 AFC Championship in which the Patriot won 45-7. It was also their first meeting since the Deflategate scandal. Colts are researched for failing to play the tricks that happened ironically on 4 and 2.

Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Pittsburgh Tennessee Titans

Steelers seri sepanjang masa 46-32 pada akhir musim 2017.

Baltimore Ravens vs. New England Patriots

This competition stems from 4 playoffs played between them in the early to mid 2010's. They meet in the back to back AFC Championships (2012 & amp; 2013) along with two other playoffs in 2010 and 2015, the team has split the playoffs 2-2, but the Patriots lead the regular season series 8-1 as of the end of the season 2016.

Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Pittsburgh Jacksonville Jaguars

The Pittsburgh Steelers and Jacksonville Jaguars first played each other in the 1995 NFL season, when Jaguars joined the NFL and played at AFC Central along with the Steelers. This continued until the reorganization conference in 2002, when Jaguars joined the new South AFC along with newly created Texas troops. Both teams have played in some regular season games since then, and played against each other in the AFC Wild Card 2007 round

The rivalry bounced back in the 2017 season, when the Jaguars won two games against the Steelers at Heinz Field, including the AFC division playoff play. Both of these games feature the dominant Steelers and emerging Jaguars. The game of the AFC Division is very high, with Jaguars winning 45-42

The Jaguars lead the series 14-11, with a 2-0 record in the playoffs.

National Football Conference

NFC East

Dallas Cowboys vs. Washington Redskins

The rivalry between the Dallas Cowboys and the Washington Redskins is called the NFL's top rivalry of all time and "one of the greatest in sport" by Sports Illustrated . The two franchises have won 36 joint division titles and ten NFL Championships, including eight combined Super Bowls. They are the two richest franchises in the NFL. The competition started in 1960 when the Cowboys joined the league as an expansion team. During the year they were at separate conferences, but played once during the season. Since 1961, Dallas has been in the same division as the Redskins. Dallas led the all-time 70-44-2 series at the end of the 2017 season. Despite their storied history, they only met twice in the playoffs (1972 & 1982), both in the NFC Championship Match. Washington won both meetings.

Dallas Cowboys vs. Philadelphia Eagles

The rivalry between the Dallas Cowboys and the Philadelphia Eagles has been one of the high-profile rivalries in the NFL over the last three decades, characterized by a very fierce game typical of the NFC East, with both teams often fighting for divisional crowns. The Cowboys have a 66-52 lead in the all-time series at the end of the 2017 season. In the playoffs they face each other in 1980, 1992, 1995, & amp; 2009 where Dallas has won the last 3 times.

Dallas Cowboys vs. New York Giants

Modern rivalry started in the 2003 season when Bill Parcells took over as head coach of the Cowboys. After he left, Wade Phillips coached the Cowboys to the division winning season in 2007 only to see the team fall into the Giants in the 2007 Division playoffs, in what proved to be the last playoff game in the history of the Texas Stadium. Since then both teams have found talent to win on the pitch of another home. The Giants sport a 4-2 record in AT & amp; T Stadium while Cowboys 4-2 at MetLife Stadium. Both teams combine a total of nine Super Bowl Championships with the Giants winning two latest trophies. Dallas are ahead in the 64-46-2 series of all time at the end of the 2017 season. The 2007 playoff meeting was their only postseason meeting.

New York Giants vs. Philadelphia Eagles

Competition between the Philadelphia Eagles and the New York Giants took place in 1933. However, the competition began to heat up when both teams became famous in the 1940s and 1950s. The rivalry is based primarily on two teams in the same division in the NFL since 1933 and the New York City-Philadelphia geographic rivalry. It was ranked by Sports Illustrated as one of the top ten NFL competition of all time at # 4. However, the geographical rivalry between the Eagles and Giants is well-known among footballers, worthy of mention at ESPN.com.

Competition is the oldest of the East NFC and has become one of the best rivalries in the NFL in the 21st century. The Giants and Eagles have met four times in the playoffs. The Giants won in 1981 & amp; 2000, and the Eagles won in 2006 & amp; 2008. The Giants led the all-time 85-81-2 series at the end of the 2016 season.

Giants New York vs. Washington Redskins

The Giants and Redskins have storied competition. While New York is leading the competition, there is a huge period of competition between the two teams, especially during the 1980s where they are at loggerheads for the division title and the Super Bowl championship. Between 1982-91 they joined for 8 division titles and 5 Super Bowl titles, two by Giants (1986, 1990) and three by Redskins (1982, 1987, 1991). New York has an all-time 99-67-4 record over Washington at the end of the 2016 season. The team have met in the playoffs twice, with the Redskins closing the Giants 28-0 in 1943 and New York back supporting 43 years later at the 1986 NFC Conference Conference , won 17-0.

Washington Redskins vs. Philadelphia Eagles

Washington led an 86-73-6 all-time series at the end of the 2016 season and won their only playoff game in the 1990 Wild Card around 20-6.

North NFC

Chicago Bears vs. Green Bay Packers

The Bears-Packers competition started in 1921 and is the longest-running league, with 194 regular and post-season season games. The Packers lead series 96-94-6 as of November 2017.

Both clubs have won a combined NFL 22 championship (including 5 Super Bowls) and have 48 members at Pro Football Hall of Fame.

The 1982 NFL-strike-triggered season did not include the Bears-Packers game. Because of this, this is not the longest continuous competition. That goes for the Lions-Packers, who have played at least twice each season since 1932.

Competition has led to the Chicago-Milwaukee/Wisconsin rivalry seen in other sports, such as the Brewers-Cubs rivalry in Major League Baseball and the rivalry between the Bulls and Bucks at the National Basketball Association.

The team met four times in calendar year 2011, and Packer won all four. They met on January 2nd in the 2010 regular season finals, then three weeks later at the NFC Conference Championship Game on the way to winning the Super Bowl XLV, and then they have both meetings in the regular season of 2011. The regular season 2013 final is presented as a playoff game for Division Championship North NFC, which Green Bay won 33-28, scored a 48-yard touchdown on fourth and 8th with 38 seconds remaining.

Chicago Bears vs. Detroit Lions

The Bears-Lions competition is the NFL rivalry between the Chicago Bears and the Detroit Lions. Chicago and Detroit share or have shared sports rivalry in all four major sports (see Bulls-Pistons rivalry, White Sox-Tigers rivalry, Blackhawks-Red Wings rivalry). The franchise first met in 1930 when the Lions became known as Portsmouth Spartan and based in Portsmouth, Ohio. They moved to Detroit for the 1934 season. The Bears and Lions have been division rivals since 1933 and usually meet twice the season since the Lions franchise begins. Bear leads the series 97-72-5 at the end of the 2016 season.

The competition is also the longest annual series in the NFL as both teams have met at least once a season since 1930. [1] (Because of the 1982 strike, the Bears-Packers rivalry was not played that season.) However, one of the two meetings between the two teams was canceled during the 3rd Week of the 1987 season, which did not make this competition a continuous series in the NFL (that feels the possession of the Lions-Packers rivalry, who have met at least two seasons since 1932 without any canceled meetings).

Detroit Lions vs. Green Bay Packers

The Lions-Packers competition is the NFL competition between the Detroit Lions and the Green Bay Packers. They first met in 1930 when the Lions became known as Portsmouth Spartan and based in Portsmouth, Ohio. The team eventually moved to Detroit for the 1934 season. The Lions and Packers have been divisional rivals since 1933 and have always met at least two seasons since 1932, without any match being canceled between the two rivals (for today). The Packers lead the series 100-70-7 at the end of the 2017 season.

Detroit Lions vs Minnesota Vikings

Green Bay Packers vs. Minnesota Vikings

The Packers-Viking competition began in 1961, when Vikings entered the league as an expansion team. Competition is known for being very close, both in the all-time series and in every game. It is also regarded as one of the most intense rivalries in the NFL, due to these close matches, the fact that the two teams often battle for the NFC North title, and the fact that the two countries where these teams are located (Minnesota and Wisconsin) have competition in many sports, seen among the Top Ten rivals, the University of Wisconsin and the University of Minnesota. Events like Randy Moss who became the moon for the Green Bay audience in the first playoffs between the two teams (won by the Vikings), and former great Packer player Brett Favre moving to the Vikings have created more resentment among these teams.

Minnesota Vikings vs Chicago Bears

NFC South

Atlanta Falcons vs. New Orleans Saints

In 93 games played, the series between Falcons and Saints at NFC South is the oldest and most established competition in this division. Born one year apart, Saints and Falcons are the first two NFL franchises in Deep South (Dallas are practically southern but not in traditional Southern Deep). They have shared many of the same players, such as Morten Andersen (top scorer in History Saints, as Falcons Kicker Matt Bryant is now the top scorer in Falcons history), Bobby Hebert (who became quarterback for both teams in the 1990s), and Joe Horn (Pro Bowl Saints recipient who went to Falcons in 2007). They have also attracted coaches from the same family, and even shared head coaches: the recent Falcons coach, Jim L. Mora is the son of the old Saints coach Jim E. Mora, and former Falcons and Saints coach Wade Phillips is the son of a former Saints Coach Bum Phillips. Although rarely recorded by the national media - no doubt due to the two long teams of futility until the opening decade of the 21st century - the game between Falcons and Saints has been fixated in their respective territories for over 40 years. Fans of both teams considered their most important and hated opponents.

ESPN.com writer Len Pasquarelli has cited the competition as one of the best in all sports: "Every year, the bus caravan is loaded with rowdy (and usually very drunk) fans making a seven hour trip between the two cities Unless you've attended a hateful afternoon Falcons-Saints, you just have to take my word for how nice it really is. "[23]

Atlanta leads the 50-46 series (49-46 regular seasons, 1-0 playoffs). From 2006 onwards, the team has been a consistent playoff threat, New Orleans earning four division titles in 2006, 2009, 2011 and 2017 while Falcons made a playoff in 2008 and won the division in 2010, 2012 and 2016. Both teams has reached the Super Bowl, just once New Orleans and two times Atlanta (Saints won the Super Bowl XLIV over Colts 31-17, while Atlanta lost Super Bowl XXXIII to Broncos 34-19 and Super Bowl LI to Patriots 34-28).

New Orleans Saints vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Although the Saints and the Buccaneers have been playing since 1977, this fight started full competition in 2002 when the Saints and Buccaneers moved into the same division, NFC South. The first fight was in 1977 at the Louisiana Superdome (now Mercedes-Benz Superdome) when Bucs won 33-14. The final match is in 2015 at Raymond James Stadium. The Saints won 24-17. Together, they have held 49 meetings. The Saints lead this competition 32-19.

Carolina Panthers vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Although the Buccaneers and Panthers have been playing since 1995, this fight became full of competition in 2002 when they moved to the same division, NFC South. This first meeting took place in 1995 at Memorial Stadium in Clemson when Bucs won 20-13. The last meeting came in 2016 at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa when the Bucs won 17-16. The Panthers lead series 20-12.

Atlanta Falcons vs. Carolina Panthers

The Falcons-Panthers competition is a rivalry between the Atlanta Falcons and the Carolina Panthers of the National Football League. The two franchises have twelve joint division titles (eleven as members of the same division) and four Super Bowl appearances, with Falcons appearing on Super Bowl XXXIII and Super Bowl LI and Panthers appearing on Super Bowl XXXVIII and 50.

The Panthers and Falcons have played each other twice a year since 1995, as members of both West NFC (1995-2001) and South NFC (2002-present). Their games have been marked by intensity, close scores, and incredible looks.

It is also known as I-85 Rivalry because Atlanta and Charlotte became only four hours apart on Interstate 85. Indeed, the game between the two often featured a large contingent of visiting visiting stadium enthusiasts.

NFC West

San Francisco 49ers vs. Seattle Seahawks

Seattle Seahawks and San Francisco 49ers became divisional rivals in 2002, when Seattle moved to NFC West. However, it was not until 2011 that the match became a true competition. The 49ers won the division in 2002, but did not have another winning season until 2011. Meanwhile, Seahawks made five direct playoffs from 2003-2007 and appeared on Super Bowl XL.

In 2010, Seahawks hired former USC head coach Pete Carroll, who brought the Seahawks into the playoffs of his first year, and the competition began to grow in 2011 when the 49ers hired former Stanford head coach Jim Harbaugh, who also brought his team into the playoffs of his first year. Carroll and Harbaugh have strong rivals as college head coaches, and competition follows them to the NFL.

Competition took place in 2012, when both teams posted a winning record and made the NFC Playoff the same year for the first time. The teams split their game, with Seahawks defeating 49er 42-13 on national TV in a 16th weekend game that kept the division race alive till the last week. San Francisco finally won the division by half-game and advanced to the Super Bowl XLVII (losing 31-34 to the Baltimore Ravens), while the Seahawks lost in the NFC division round.

In 2013, the team returned to divide their game, and Seahawks won the division with a game and then won the Super Bowl XLVIII, beating the 49ers in an NFC Championship game. All three of the 49ers-Seahawks matches were highly anticipated that season, and most sports analysts call it the best competition in the NFL. Since then the San Francisco 49ers and Seattle Seahawks fans have always been eagerly awaiting this round division match.

San Francisco 49ers vs. Los Angeles Rams

The rivalry between the 49ers and the Rams began in 1950. Competition became one of the most intense in the NFL in the 1970s as the two teams were based in California (Rams then played their home games in Los Angeles while the 49ers played their home game in San Francisco) regularly competing for the NFC Western Division NFL title. Both teams have won 129 games, in which San Francisco leads 64-62-3. After the Rams moved to St. Louis (in 1995), the competition has lost his geographical knowledge, although the game is still intense. Cultural differences between the West Coast (where the 49ers are based) and the Midwest (where Rams are based) are also added to the intensity of the competition. By 2016, the Rams move back to Los Angeles to make the competition once again on the West Coast. Sports Illustrated thought of it as the 8th best of all time in the NFL.

Historical competition

Oakland Raiders vs. Pittsburgh Steelers

The Immaculate Reception spawned hot rivalry between the Raiders and the Steelers, a competition that was at its peak during the 1970s, when both teams were among the best in the league and both were known for their hard physical play. The teams met in the playoffs in each of the next four seasons, starting with a 33-14 Raiders win in the 1973 division playoff. Pittsburgh used the AFC championship game victory over Oakland (24-13 in Oakland in 1974 and 16-10 in Pittsburgh in 1975) as a stepping stone to victories in Super Bowl IX and Super Bowl X, before the Raiders recorded a 24-7 victory at home in 1976 on their way to winning the Super Bowl XI. For now, the last two met in the playoffs in 1983 when finally the Super Bowl Raiders champion, playing in Los Angeles at the time, destroyed the 38-10 Steelers. The competition was rather dead in the years since, mainly because of the Raiders on the field of struggle since appearing on Super Bowl XXXVII.

Dallas Cowboys vs. San Francisco 49ers

The fierce rivalry between the Dallas Cowboys and San Francisco 49ers began in the 1970s and became prominent during the 1990s. For three straight seasons from 1992 to 1994, the two teams met in a conference championship game. Each one is a fierce battle that the winner wins the Super Bowl in each of those seasons. The NFL Top 10 ranks this competition to be the tenth best in NFL history. San Francisco has played Dallas in seven postseason games with Cowboys leading the postseason series 5-2. Cowboys leads the 18-17-1 series of all time.

New York Giants vs. San Francisco 49ers

The Giants-49ers rivalry took root in the 1980s when both teams were on the rise and would join to win six Super Bowls from 1981-90. During that stretch there were five postseason meetings between the two teams.

The 49ers beat the Giants in the first two meetings (1981 NFC division round 38-24 and again in the division round, this time in 1984, winning 21-10) on the way to victory in Super Bowl XVI and Super Bowl XIX. The Giants will beat 49ers in the next three playoff meetings; in the 1985 Wild Card, the Giants defeated the defending Super Bowl XIX 17-3 champions, then destroyed 49er 49-3 in the 1986 playoff division round on the way to winning the Super Bowl XXI, the first in the history of the Giants franchise. The game was memorable to overcome Jim Burt's punch at Joe Montana which put him out of the game in the second quarter; Montana's pass on this game was intercepted by Lawrence Taylor and Taylor raced in a 34-yard touchdown.

The two teams met again at the 1990 NFC Conference Championship Game. In one of the most physical football matches ever played, the Giants made 49-13 15, ending their hopes of winning three Super Bowls in a row while the Giants went on to win their second Super Bowl in franchise history at Super Bowl XXV. 49ers got their revenge in the 1993 playoffs when they defeated the Giants in the 44-3 division rounds in the last games of Lawrence Taylor and Phil Simms. Competition intensified in the 2002 playoffs when the two clubs met in the playoffs NFC Wildcard and Niners behind Jeff Garcia erased the 38-14 gap to a 39-38 Niners victory, a game deciding on a chaotic and controversial field goal by the Giants.

Recently, the competition has cooled from its peak in the 1980s. However, during the 2011 NFC Championship game, the two met at Candlestick Park. The Giants beat the 49ers 20-17 in extra time to go to and eventually won the Super Bowl XLVI.
