Adobe Streamline is a discontinued stop tracking program developed and published by Adobe Systems. The ultimate goal is to convert scanned bitmaps into vector artwork. Streamline is similar in functionality to competitors, such as Corel Trace, but is advertised as a stand-alone rather than an additional utility in a full picture series. Streamline stopped after Adobe Illustrator CS2 introduced a new search tool titled Live Trace , which provides fast tracking, fine-grained control and "direct links" to the bitmap being tracked. A test of the original Illustrator 9 auto-trace functionality by Creative Pro in 2002 concluded: "The main tracking utility is StreamLine, which is uncontrollable and highly accurate."

History

In 1989, at the MacWorld Exhibition in San Francisco, Adobe introduced Adobe Streamline. They demonstrate it as a program that can reproduce hardcopy graphics graphics, converting bit-bit images into high-quality PostScript artwork. Later, Adobe released Streamline for IBM computers and Windows operating systems. Adobe Streamline 4.0 for $ 199.00 for new users and $ 69.00 for upgrades. After Adobe Streamline 4.0, the most popular tool in the program, related to line conversion, is incorporated into the Adobe Illustrator CS2 Adobe Illustrator tool.

Use of Adobe Streamline

Adobe Streamline is advertised as a way to convert images into line art (bitmaps into vectors). In the User Guide for Streamline 3.0, Adobe provides many examples of what programs it can use. In addition to creating line drawings from photos, Adobe suggests photo posterization and color editing, coloring a gray image, and using other special line effects. They also show users making movie posters, business logos, architectural sketches, brochures, legal forms, newsletters, stamp blocks, and illustrations. Users can then export their work from Adobe Streamline and edit it in other ways in Adobe Illustrator.
