Mary Eleanor Jessie Knox nÃÆ' à © e Shepard (December 25, 1909 - September 4, 2000) is an English illustrator for children's books. He is famous for the stories of Mary Poppins written by PL Travers (1934 to 1988): "Mary Shepard: Put Mary Poppins in the picture", The Times of London entitled article obituaries,. She uses her marriage name Mary Knox outside the publishing industry.

Life and career
She is the daughter of EH Shepard, a well-known illustrator of children's literature including AA Milne's Winnie-the-Pooh by AA Milne in 1920 and Kenneth's 1931 edition The Wind in the Willows Grahame.
Shepard graduated from Slade School of Art. He was 23 when his father was too busy to describe Mary Poppins and Travers found his work on a Christmas card.
She married E. V. Knox, Penelope Fitzgerald's father.
