Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is a 1938 drawing book written and illustrated by Wanda GÃÆ'¡g and published by Coward-McCann. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is the Caldecott Medal Honor Book in 1939. This book is a twist on the classic Snow White story by Brothers Grimm. Since then it has been re-published several times, including in 1999, 2004, and 2013.

After the success of Walt Disney's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs films, writer Anne Carroll Moore suggested that GÃÆ'¡g retell the Snow White story in a way more faithful to the original Brothers Grimm story. Gag translates text from German and designs his illustrations.

Synopsis
A queen, once the "most beautiful", turned into envy when her mirror mirrored that her seven-year-old stepson, Snow White, is now the most beautiful. With the queen's anger demanding the hunter to bring Snow White into the forest, kill him, and bring back the mark as proof of his death. Once in the woods, Snow White begs the hunter not to harm her, assures her that she will run away and never return. The hunter agrees and brings the wild boar liver to the queen as a token. Snow White walked until she found a small wooden hut, inside it found objects in septuplicate. Snow White slept in one of the small beds, and was later awakened by seven dwarves. They agreed to let him stay if he became their house keeper.
Then, when the evil queen asks for her miraculous mirror, "Mirror, Mirror, on the wall, Who is the most beautiful of all?" the mirror replied, "You are very fair, Oh Queen, But the most beautiful ever seen dwells in the jungle valley With seven little men." Angry, ragged queen dress and painted his face to hide his identity. He traveled to the valley and convinced Snow White to eat an apple that was secretly poisoned, despite protests from the dwarves. Snow White was poisoned and looked dead; dwarfs form glass cases and place them inside.
Years ago, and one day a young prince walked through the forest of Snow White spots in a coffin. He begged the dwarves to let him take him to the castle, after much begging they agreed. On the way to the castle, people shook the crate and a slice of apple apart from Snow White's throat. She wakes up and the prince makes her his bride. Queen was forced to dance to death as punishment. Snow White, her prince, and seven dwarves live happily ever after.
Critical reception
Weekly Publishers describes this book as "an amazing version of the classic Grimm story". Books Links found that "pen-and-ink images are a treasure, filled with detail" and that "the inventive composition and asymmetrical image form are the main features in GÃÆ'¡g's work."
