The World History Time Atlas is the historical atlas first published by Times Books Limited, then a subsidiary of Times Newspapers Ltd and then Collins Bartholomew, a subsidiary of HarperCollins, and which in the latest edition has changed its name to The Complete History of the World . The first two editions were created by Barry Winkleman, managing director of Times Atlases and Managing Director of Times Books. They were edited by Professor Chichele Oxford from the Modern History of Geoffrey Barraclough. It contains a large full-color slab and comments on each map or set of maps. Includes about 600 maps covering the date range 3000 BC to 1975. It has been revised and reprinted for several times and the latest edition is the ninth edition, published in 2015, and reflects on the modern world up to the 21st century.

This book begins with eleven pages of "World Chronology" which is a quick line of sight across the general geographic area. It suffuses with the Glossary (38 pages), helps in cross referencing names and places, and indexes (26 pages).
Each section is subdivided into a given subject and contains between one and nine maps, a chart to show the economy, demography, manufacturing, agricultural produce, drug trafficking and other necessary data. Sometimes illustrations are included in a topic.
In the introduction to the first edition, Geoffrey Barraclough notes that the desire of The Atlas is to give history from the point of view of its creator, then the spread of Islam, for example, centered on Mecca. , like perhaps a seventh-century Arab view.

Atlas , first published in 1978 in London, England, sold over two million copies in many languages. The stated goal is to illustrate the great processes and events of world history across the vast canvas and eliminate the small details of, say, family rule, small battles etc. Want to provide a dynamic view of population migration, economic developments such as agriculture and industrialization, war, religious spreading and political ideology.
This was made by Barry Winkleman, Publishing Director of The Times, and Geoffrey Barraclough, Chichele Professor of Modern History at Oxford University. They assembled teams from around 100 eminent historians from around the world who wrote texts and provided map sources and recruited illustrator teams and designers to create more than 6 maps that were not primarily cartographers but illustrators. The design of the map is the work of Peter Sullivan, a major art teacher and graphic artist in The Sunday Times London. The illustration team comes from Product Support Graphics, a large design group once part of Rolls Royce Motors in Derby, England, using technical illustration technology to make projections.
Atlas was the first work of its kind published in China, in Beijing, in 1981, by The Joint Publishing Company, and a great success in French ( Encyclopedie Universalis ), Germany ( Droemer Verlag ), Italian ( Mondadori ), Hungarian ( Akademiai Kiado ), Serbo-Croat ( Cankarjeva Zalozba ) and in other languages. In the United Kingdom published by Times Books Limited and in the United States, where it got great success, by Hammond, Inc.
After the death of Geoffrey Barraclough in 1984, three other editors have edited the atlas. The third edition was edited by Norman Stone, then Geoffrey Parker for the fourth edition, and Richard Overy for the fifth edition until this eight edition. Also, since the fifth edition of the atlas is fully updated with digital maps and is named The Complete World Atlas of All Time , along with a smaller version of The Times Compact History of the World formerly known as The Concise Atlas of World History .
